What's on your mind?
An in-depth interview with the director of the upcoming Bloodshot movie, Dave Wilson (that I know the person most likely to read this has seen, but still interesting nonetheless), reveals some interesting things about the behind-the-scenes of the film.
"...some of Vin’s other characters like Dom and Xander are very strong alpha male characters that are usually one step ahead of everyone else. And it's the complete opposite with Bloodshot, still the alpha male eventually, but he's very much being manipulated and very much one step behind them. Very much struggling to discover who he is and get a leg up on those who are keeping him oppressed. I think that was very appealing to him." Glad to see they're really leaning into the elements that make Bloodshot unique from other action heroes!
Wilson also expresses interest in bringing "Hardcore", which I assume is a typo on either his or Newsarama's part and he meant the H.A.R.D. Corps, to the big screen. "I always thought Hardcore was an incredibly interesting group simply because I love technological grounding to superheroes. I felt like a lot of the concepts within Hardcore also are also similar in Bloodshot, but just in terms of like the transhumanism aspect of how we are using technology to augment human beings, but most specifically in Hardcore with the sort of neural implants." The Corps as characters in the potential Bloodshot 2, maybe?
Tomorrow evening we'll probably know more.....
...about that BAD IDEA of Dinesh, Hunter, Dysart, LaRosa, and maybe Matt Kindt.
...and the Bloodshot movie, of course.
Valiant's social media has released this small, cropped image featuring the new character seen in other teasers, and Previews.
I believe this is the new Doctor Tomorrow, although I suppose there hasn't been any ACTUAL confirmation. The Previews editorial only stated Doc was coming, not that he is necessarily this kid in blue/white/red.
It looks like Brett Booth snuck a neat reference to classic Bloodshot into this week's issue!
Most of anyone reading this probably caught this already, but I thought I'd point it out. I love this sort of thing, it's like an Easter Egg to some obscure character in a MCU movie--it rewards long-time fans, while not actively confusing newer fans.
This month's Diamond Previews has come out, and with it comes Bloodshot on the cover (and a very...revealing back cover, wish someone had warned me before I walked past a bunch of kids with it facing them) and a teaser for Valiant's 2020 Year of Heroes. Sorry for the low-quality of the image, but I can't find a better version anywhere else online and wanted to post if for people who didn't pick up the Previews.
We get cool looks at Rai, Bloodshot, Quantum and Woody, as well as Shadowman, Ninjak, and X-O. We can probably assume that the art from those 3 comes from their upcoming series. And, biggest of all, in the top right we have an entirely new character: Likely the same one from the Neela/Ank teaser, and related to the strange, new characters from that full-page teaser.
An editorial from Previews states reveals that this character is the modern take on Doctor Tomorrow. This new version of the character deals with heroic and villanous versions of himself from different timelines (maybe explaining that cyborg jerk fighting the entire VU? He's supposed to be the Doctor in a timeline where he becomes a big villain?).
Previews also states that Valiant will be publishing a NEW comic every month for 2020. If this is entirely accurate, I am...nervously excited. While I obviously want as much Valiant as possible, I don't want the company to overburden themselves, or go for quantity over quality. I do also think it's possible that this idea is TECHNICALLY true, but we won't be getting 12 big, new ongoing series--some will be minis or even one-shots.
That same paragraph also reconfirms what the cover suggested, and we'll be getting more Savage and Punk Mambo in 2020! It reconfirms X-O is coming with Hallum too, which is nice.
The album is going to be a double-album with brand new songs, brand new orchestral versions of fan favorite songs, and more depending on the stretch goals. But the most awesome detail is "Break Free", another (new) song that is inspired by a Valiant character and series (RAI) AND the lyrics are a collaboration by the band and series writer Dan Abnett. So cool!
This band should open shows for Iron Maiden.
Ah yes, there'll be an Exclusive Iron Maiden Homage Variant cover for the upcoming Rai #1. Obviously it will be a homage to the album cover of "Somewhere In Time".
The campaign will end on November 25, 2019.
The minimum goal's almost been reached.
About 20k more and there'll be a RAI 7'' picture disc, too.
(Maybe with a normal and an acoustic version of the song. Just my guess.)
Also, take a look at the $100 pledge in case you can afford it.
(You'll definitely get MORE than you'll pay for. 4 CDs + all 6 excl. covers)
Nuff said....PLEDGE AWAY!
In the style of the recent Ninjak teaser, we've got one featuring the Harbinger logo!
Next month's Diamond Previews features Jonboy Meyers' Bloodshot, celebrating Valiant 2020!
I wonder: The bottom of the cover lists a number of Valiant characters, ending with "And more in 2020!" Is that a confirmation of Savage and Harbinger coming back in 2020? Or just a list of notable Valiant characters
Because people who work behind the scene need some love, too.
This is crazy! It really looks like it's hovering there. It's magic!
This one's pretty cool too:
I've seen multiple ideas as to what this could represent. Personally, I think it's just for the next Ninjak story, as a follow up to both Roku and Killers (like the new Rai is to Fallen World). However, with Valiant captioning the image "Stepping out of the shadows..." I've seen some theorize that this may not be for a Ninjak title...but a UNITY title. Ninjak, stepping out of the shadows to be a public hero again, that sort of thing. If that is the case, we'll likely see similar images featuring X-O, Gilad, WHOEVER over the next few days.
That song is a great pick, love how it repeats over and over. And "RST", is that...Rising Spirit Technologies, maybe? Not a fan of how Ray isn't albino in more than a few shots (should have least been the fight scenes), but those fight scenes are VERY cool, and I like seeing his Circle glow through his shirt.
Overall, while it's far from the greatest trailer of all time, I think it gets the job done. It sets up what makes Bloodshot unique from other action heroes, gives hints towards the plot, and shows off some damn cool action.
We have our first, real-deal, official look at Bloodshot movie! Full trailer confirmed to be coming TOMORROW (by which I assume they mean Monday)!
The teaser is incredibly short, but we get to see Vin's Bloodshot getting his FACE SHOT OFF, HOW COOL IS THAT!
Robert Meyers tweeted (and Valiant retweeted with the caption"#Valiant2020") this panel out, as apparently a panel related to an upcoming press release Gregg Katzman is working on. It features Timewalker Neela and Ank, looking at some strange new character on some screens. Related to those maybe-Stormbreakers, possibly? The art looks similar, although not identical.
And here we have a new kind of teaser for 2020!
Yellow and blue, Aric...I'm willing to bet this is building up to a full unveil for X-O Unleashed, with a new release date and more art and covers.
Thought I'd compile what Valiant has shown off or talked about at NYCC so far! I probably will forget something, but I'll try.
-McFarlane Toys is making a Bloodshot action figure, showing off Vin Diesel's look! (Interesting to see a company by an Image Comics founder work on Bloodshot, 20 years after the disaster of Deathmate)
-Faith: Taking Flight was announced, a YA novel based on Faith Herbert by Julie Murphy! Apparently, there may be more Valiant novels to come!
-More details on the Quantum and Woody ongoing! The Bros will get new powers (that is why Woody's floating in that one teaser page, I assume), and a new mentor figure in "The Apprehension". Apparently she's shown off on the cover, but I can't find out which one that means. I ASSUME the green woman, but it MIGHT be the robot or the skeleton. It will apparently be semi-episodic, but have overreaching arcs too.
-Speaking of episodic, Rai will be that way too. Each issue will be "a little bit of a different genre, a little bit of a different theme", to quote Robert Meyers. Juan Jose Ryp apparently came up with some interesting uses for Rai's superspeed, which I am interested in.
-Bloodshot didn't have a ton of new details, mostly it was just hyping up the series. Apparently though, February will see the release of a "Bloodshot #0" to tie into the movie--it's unclear if that means just a retelling of his origin or a movie prequel, though. It was also reconfirmed that the current series takes place after Salvation, and 'Shot has Magic and Jessie in hiding so they're not in danger. The title has plans for Jessie though, later in 2020!
-Roku and Visitor were also just generally hyped up, got some new art, no real details.
-No details on Shadowman yet, but the people at Valiant seem REALLY proud of the secret creative team they've put together.
-No explanation for the Hadrian teases either, which surprised me.
-The teaser image Valiant showed off a few Cons ago has been fully revealed! Based on the placement in the panel, it seems unrelated to Hadrian and Shadowman. No details on what it relates to, but we can see the mysterious new characters without the silhouettes
-Finally, during the Valiant Panel, fans asked about the state of certain characters, as they are prone to do. Valiant gave non-answers on the Anni-Paddas and Britannia, but hinted at Harbinger returning later in 2020. Divinity got the most in-depth answer: Robert Meyers noted that Divinity, being so powerful, needs an equally powerful foil, something they're working on trying to figure out. Deathmate got a shootout (I assume they mean the character, not the event), and while there's "nothing in the works", there's "nothing not in the works". (They also acknowledged the fan demand for Solar, Turok, and Magnus, but reminded fans they don't have the rights to those characters.)
And I think that's everything! Not sure if I left anything out. No details on X-O or the Bloodshot movie (but we all know that trailer is coming in a little less than 2 weeks). Overall, this was a good con--my only complaint is I think Q&W and the Faith novel could have been announced during the panel, or even Shadowman or Hadrian, in order to spice it up, but I bet Valiant was worried the news would be buried.
Two weeks out from the trailer now! And look at that, a toy distributor at NYCC showed off a Bloodshot action figure based on Vin Diesel!
The face looks little flat and plain, but that's probably just the figure, and not Vin Diesel's actual new face, haha.
Chrisitpoher Hastings and Ryan Browne, writing anew Q&W story launching January 2020!
"The last Quantum & Woody series ended with the title characters on the run from the government. This new series is set to pick up there, with the Quantum and Woody’s reputation as superheroes in tatters and the duo struggling to find any sort of adventure or mission that will help them regain their relevance and status as heroes. Because these characters are typically tagged “the world’s worst superhero duo,” this is likely to prove more difficult than they expect."
Glad to see it's going to be respecting the continuity of the previousseries, at least a little! After Q&WMD! was totally ignored by the last series, it's good to see a writer actually picking up threads,
