Bloodshot Rising Spirit is one of many attempts by the organization Project Rising Spirit to create a cyborg supersoldier. He is a prototype of Bloodshot, and was destroyed after numerous failed attempts at rewriting his memory led him to go crazy and attack his handlers.

History[]

The origins and identity of Bloodshot Rising Spirit are unknown. Considering Project Bloodshot's other subjects, however, it can be assumed he was recruited into Project Rising Spirit out of the military, likely after some kind of accident. His body was modified and enhanced with small, robotic Nanites, giving him incredible abilities in combat, allowing PRS to use him as a powerful weapon and agent. Rising Spirit was used as a test dummy for PRS's new Bloodshot Memory Engrams, which allowed them to erase, modify and rewrite his memories to suit their needs. They imprinted entire lives and histories on the subject, changing his name and personality whenever they wanted. The process was still experimental, however, and none of the memories would "stick", forcing the PRS scientists to use numerous engrams in the early days of the experiments.

Rising Spirit was used on a small handful of missions, until a faulty engram led him to go rogue in Dubai. The Project brought in a group of their other superhuman commandos, the H.A.R.D. Corps, to take him down. While the Corps was skilled and powerful, Rising Spirit proved equally so, almost killing several members before being put down by their leader Major Palmer. In response to the Dubai incident, the Project initiated a process to burn Rising Spirit's brain through countless Engrams at once, until one stuck. This process was successful, but unfortunately, the imprinted identity was that of a deranged serial killer named Richard Tate.

"Richie" quickly escaped custody, cutting a bloody path through Project Rising Spirit and the surrounding area. He rampaged across the United States for days, until he was confronted by an alliance of those responsible for his creation, including programmers Olga Strauss and Ray Garrison, as well as a similarly-enhanced solider named Lieutenant-Colonel Gavin Daube. Together, they managed to upload a program into Rising Spirit that shut his consciousness off, at the cost of most of their lives. Considering the whole experiment a failure, the Project incinerated Rising Spirit, but used what they learned from him to move onto newer, stronger subjects.

Personality[]

Nothing is known of Rising Spirit's true personality. Most of his memory files made him a violent, angry, yet tactical man, with origins in crime or the army.
