I wonder what my Valet-Rob is thinking? Can you read his thoughts, Leeja? Suppose he could think. Suppose tonight something happened -- an accident... what cold, dark spiders would scuttle across his planes of reason? Would he... idolize T-1? And what would he think of... "The Famous Robot Fighter"?

Synopsis[]
North Am, 4001 A.D. A gang of rogue Freewill robots, led by O-1X, attacks Central-rob. Suddenly, Magnus is among them, destroying the Freewils with deadly precision! O-1X escapes, and later attacks 1-A in Magnus' undersea base. Magnus knows he has his hands full with O-1X's rebellion, and now he learns that there are an estimated ten million Freewills hidden among North Am's robot-servant population![1]
Notes[]
- The story "Emancipator" is a prequel to the "Steel Nation" saga, which appeared in Magnus, Robot Fighter #1-4.
- From the foreword by Jim Shooter: "Zero-numbered issues have become a tradition at VALIANT, however, this issue, which is truly the first realization of our dream to build a universe, will always have a special place in our history and in out hearts. -- I hope you enjoy it.
- The issue is "dedicated to the memory of Russ Manning."
Quotes[]
Right. You're the one I raised here from birth... the one I tutored and cared for... the one who never calls, never telescribes--! What brings you here stranger?
- -- 1-A
The scrambled mess in my head gives me free will. What if you "fixed" me right back to being an ordinary robot? Repair is death. I would rather live with the damage. You could straighten my leg though...
