Standing Wolf was alive in the Paleothic Period, and made a deal with a mysterious, powerful entity to become the first Shadow Man and protect his people from dark forces.

History[]

In the year 40,000 BC, Standing Wolf was one of the greatest hunters in his tribe. Skilled with the spear and brave enough to battle lions, he earned the respect of his people. This respect didn't save them, however, when an evil sorcerer called the Soul Taker came, armed with a magical second skin, and slaughtered Wolf's entire tribe. Left alive and seeking revenge, Wolf journeyed north to the lair of the woman simply called the "Keeper of the Dead", who could supposedly grant him the power to fight Soul Taker.[1]

In exchange for a dead pig, the Keeper enacted a strange ritual, and summoned a banished spirit, or "Loa", named Bosou Koblamin. Wolf and Bosou Koblamin bonded, becoming one, with Wolf gaining all of the spirit's knowledge and power. Confronting Soul Taker and killing his men, Wolf now recognized the villain's second skin as another Loa, and freed the Loa from Soul Taker's control. Now powerless, Soul Taker was killed, and the souls of those he slew were freed.

Bosou Koblamin left Standing Wolf, but swore he would return if Wolf ever needed him, thus starting the lineage of the Shadow Men. [2]
