Viet Man is a member of the Bloodshot Squad and a former soldier turned into a nanite-fueled killing machine by Project Rising Spirit. Since Bloodshot U.S.A., Viet Man has been under the command of G.A.T.E..

History[]

Dell Parker grew up in Harlem in the 1960s as the son of a reverend. When he was drafted into the army during the Vietnam War, he resisted his father's attempts to get him to draft dodge and flee to Canada. Within a few years, he had been made a sergeant, but a surprise attack on the battlefield left him labeled dead. Parker was not dead, however, and instead he was taken in by Project Rising Spirit's Bloodshot Program, who performed experiments on the young man.

These experiments wiped his memory while also granting him superhuman durability, regeneration, and the ability to turn invisible. This made Parker a killing machine, now code-named "Viet Man". He was sent on numerous missions throughout the Vietnam War, missions that were generally incredibly very cruel or violent. At some point, Viet Man lost his mind, either from PTSD or because PRS thought a mindless soldier was more manageable, becoming obsessed with war. One notable mission occured after this change, and had Viet Man joining a team of other superhuman agents to attack the avatar of war known as the War-Monger. Despite these missions generally being successful, PRS felt Viet Man's abilities were technologically outdated, so he was put on ice for the time being.

Decades later, Viet Man and other former Bloodshot subjects were awoken from suspended animation, and enhanced with modern nanite technology. Viet Man's mindlessness had also been cured at some point, although he still had no memories of his earlier life. They were used as test subjects for PRS's Deathmate experiments, until the modern Bloodshot aided them in escaping from the Project. Viet Man and the other members of the Bloodshot Squad joined up with the international organization G.A.T.E., and the organization helped locate Viet Man's personnel file. This let Dell track down his father, and reunite with him one more time before the man passed away.

I didn't choose to be like this. They made me like this. They turned me into a freak. But what's new? They're always using brothers as cannon fodder. Why should I be any different?
